Bishop Kearney scheduled twelve games but dropped out just before the tournaments at the end of the season. There were 870 players on the final rosters, down five players from 2021. Rush-Henrietta and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-seven players and Batavia-Notre Dame had the smallest with thirteen.

# 3305  Penn Yan Wins 26th Title

*+Penn Yan cemented their 26th Section V Title with a comeback 8-6 win over Livonia-Avon.  The Mustangs trailed for most of the game before scoring four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to secure the win.  The Mustangs showed their pedigree of Section Final matches and stayed cool and collected throughout.

The Mustangs have won twenty-five Section V championships and have only lost one time since 1999 and given the losses to graduation and general youth of the team this year, winning the twenty-sixth will be a challenge. But we are talking about Penn Yan and youth, inexperience, and size does not play the same way in Penn Yan as it does in the rest of world.

Senior A/M Devon Gerhardt scored the first two goals for Penn Yan and after Quinn Nolan scored from the next faceoff, Ayden Mowry scored with an assist from long stick defenseman Tyler Griffin to give the Mustangs a 2-1 first quarter. That was as close as the game got, as Penn Yan score five unanswered goals in the second to go into halftime up 8-1.

Pal-Mac (#4) took out Marcus Whitman (#2) and Honeoye Falls-Lima (#3) took out Geneva (#2), but the top seeds won their games. Penn Yan (#1) defeated Haverling (#4) and Livonia-Avon (#1) defeated Wayne (#4). On Monday it will be Pal-Mac at Penn Yan and HF-L at Livonia-Avon for the brick.

Victor won a close one with Pittsford and Brockport won a close one with East United-Eastridge.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Mynderse scored first and shutout Midlakes-Red Jacket for the first half, on their way to a 5-3 win on the road. It was the first win for the Blue Devils this season and avenged their earlier 6-2 loss when they played the Eagles on May first. Junior midfielder Mitchell Dekanski led the scoring with 3g and freshman midfielder Dylan Tandle added 1g-1a. Senior goalkeeper Gino Poretta had 15s/3gs (83%) for the winners who will play Waterloo on Thursday. There was no report from Midlakes-Red Jacket at post time. [BOX SCORE]

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was opening day after a year without lacrosse and all four games today were mismatches. Bloomfield-Honeoye scored first in their opener at Waterloo and never lost the lead in what was a close game until in the last stanza, the Pride scored four unanswered goals. Junior midfielder JD Allen left the game with 6g-1a and senior attackman Max Willix had 2g-3a to lead the scoring. For Waterloo, sophomore attackman Nathan Costantino and junior midfielder Peter Shangraw each had 2g-1a for Waterloo who gets a few days off before player Wayne on Tuesday.

# 3049  Penn Yan Looks for Number 25

There is no doubt the Penn Yan will be looking to win their twenty-fifth Section V title this spring. The Mustangs have won every year except one since 1998. Head Coach Brian Hobart will be playing fourteen regular season games, most of which will be against Finer Lakes teams. The Mustangs will be playing as part of the Finger Lake League this year after many years as an Independent. In a "normal" year they would have scheduled tough competition in and out the Section as they would prepare for NYS tournament action, but there is no State tournaments this spring.

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

# 2926  Penn Yan Secures 24th Win

Penn Yan came back in overtime to defeat Pal-Mac 10-9 to win their 24th Sectional Title.  The Mustangs trailed early in the contest before taking a one goal lead into the break.  They held that lead into the fourth, when Pal-Mac scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime.  The Red Raiders had the first overtime offensive opportunity after winning the draw; however, they could not get a shot off on cage before Penn Yan got the ball upfield on an errant pass.  The Mustangs scored with 0:05 left in the first overtime period with an inside dodge by Colton Smith. Smith was named to the All Tournament Team.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Both Class B and Class D played their semifinal games today and all four top seeded teams won. In Class D, Pal-Mac defeated Marcus Whitman after taking a 10-3 lead after the first quarter. They was no report from Pal-Mac at post time. In the other Class D game, held at HF-L, Penn Yan held Midlakes to a single goal to punch their ticket to the championship. Connor Finger led the Mustangs with 3g-4a while Griffin Emerson made 8s (89%) for the Mustanges. There was not report from Midlakes at post time.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW:With only one more "big night" of games left in the reguar season, there were many important games played tonday, which will have an impact of the tournament seeds at the end of the week. Hilton, Geneva, Pal-Mac and Canandaigua both locked up 75% records with wins today, but there will be more changes for other teams on Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: After a close first quarter, Fairport scored three unanswered goals in the second and three more in the last quarter to achieve a 7-2 win at Penfield. Junior midfielder Klay Stuver led the Red Raider offense with 3g while junior goalie Tim Defendis made six saves (75%). LukeCondon and Max Hoadley each scored a groal for Penfield and Travis Wagner made twenty-one saves (75%) for the Patriots who will play Victor on Tuesday. Fairport will take on Thomas, also on Tuesday.
